In the 1990s, in the United States, Evangelical organizations promoting virginity pledges and virginity before marriage, like True Love Waits and Silver Ring Thing, used the purity ring as a symbol of commitment. [1][2][3]Wearing a purity ring is typically accompanied by a religious vow to practice abstinence until marriage.[4]Chastity rings are part of the abstinence-only sex education movement and are intended to act as a physical reminder of their chastity vow.[3]

Many celebrities, including Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Jessica Simpson, Jordin Sparks, Demi Lovato, and the Jonas Brothers, have worn purity rings.[5]

In 2005 the ACLU of Massachusetts brought charges against this decision, alleging that the Silver Ring program did not ensure its secularity and hence was ineligible for federal funding due to the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.[3]

  • Fantasy beats and dreams

    Surreal texture with an ear for playing the compression. This album annoyed me but once I understood they were playing with both the way audio is compressed for commercial distribution and cognitive dissonance things fell in place. The lyrics and singing are a complex gem in a world of all too easy pop banality. The singer will not let you forget you are on a path less travelled and a bit of a scary one at that.

    It is by far the best album I have heard in a couple of years. Their second album missed the mark a bit for me. This is a perfect album and I can only hope their third album will be a return to form.

    Is it good? Here's my short review. The album is a semi decent album created by a band that I've heard before and decided to listen too. I personally found only a couple tracks on this album really appealing. The track 'Fineshrine' Is amazing and continues to be one of my favorite songs of all time to date, and a couple of other songs are ok too. But does it make up for the whole listening experience? No. If a lot of the songs were more like fineshrine or Lofticries, then this album would be in my top five. I feel like the singles from the album give the artist great potential for more great music in the future. Let's hope that they carry that out though. 8)

    Ever since I discovered Purity Ring on Pandora, I have been under their spell. This album is utterly dazzling. I hate buying and listening to full albums, but Shrines is the kind of album that makes you want to take the time to listen to as a whole, as a work of art. And that’s truly what this album is- art. An electronic masterpiece. Three years later and songs like Crawlersout, Fineshrine, and Grandloves still take my breath away every time I hear them. I could honestly go on and on about this album. The combination of straight up FIRE beats and poetic lyrics that require you to pull out a dictionary seems like it would not work, but oh, it does. While their 2015 album Another Eternity has some great songs, Shrines will always be Purity Ring at their best. I would give this album 100 stars out of 5 if I could.
